Jinx guide: build, runes, matchups and mistakes to avoid

Jinx is a marksman who starts slow and ends as a teamfight machine: her minigun gains attack speed with every shot, her rockets hit from range and in an area, and every takedown she takes part in gives her a burst of speed. In our sample, Jinx shows up in ≈ 17.5% of 378,251 ranked solo games and wins 51.6% of 66,132 games in bot lane.

The build that wins most

A build, here, is the order of the first three finished items. Out of the 12,559 Jinx games in bot lane where those three items are known, the three most-played paths:

BuildItemsPlayedWin rate
1Hexoptics C44 → Runaan’s Hurricane → Infinity Edge48%≈ 58.2%
2Hexoptics C44 → Runaan’s Hurricane → Lord Dominik’s Regards13%≈ 53.9%
3Hexoptics C44 → Infinity Edge → Runaan’s Hurricane5%≈ 62.6%

The most-played path — Hexoptics C44 → Runaan’s Hurricane → Infinity Edge — is the reference. Taking Infinity Edge before Runaan’s Hurricane (build 3) wins even more often, on far fewer games: worth it when you are ahead. Lord Dominik’s Regards as the third item answers tanks.

With build 1, the game most often starts with Doran’s Bow + 2 × Health Potion + Stealth Ward, the boots are Berserker’s Greaves (97% of games) and the skills are maxed in the order Q > W > E (99%). Most frequent next items: Lord Dominik’s Regards, Bloodthirster, Guardian Angel.

Runes and summoner spells

The most-played rune pages of Jinx in bot lane, by keystone and trees:

Lethal Tempo · Precision + Inspiration34,11251.6%
Lethal Tempo · Precision + Sorcery29,70751.7%
Fleet Footwork · Precision + Sorcery1,24746.5%
Lethal Tempo · Precision + Resolve26353.2%

Lethal Tempo is Jinx’s keystone in almost every game, with Inspiration or Sorcery behind it: the two win the same. Fleet Footwork, rarer, wins clearly less.

The full page most played with build 1: Lethal Tempo, Presence of Mind, Legend: Bloodline, Cut Down, Cash Back, Triple Tonic. Summoner spells: Flash + Barrier in 90% of games.

Matchups: the easiest and the hardest

Jinx’s win rate against each opponent in the same role, compared with the champion’s usual 51.6%: the gap in points. Only matchups of at least 200 games are kept.

Kog’Maw810≈ 48.0%−3.6
Yasuo924≈ 48.4%−3.2
Twitch2,67648.9%−2.7

Jinx’s hardest lanes: Kog’Maw, who out-ranges her later on, Twitch, who catches her coming out of stealth, and mages such as Aurelion Sol, who harass her from afar. Against them, farm with your rockets, keep your chompers for their entry and wait for your first item: that is when Jinx takes over. Against Ezreal or Samira, your rockets and your chompers win the short trades.

The most frequent mistakes

Two habits measured on the 16,656 games with a minute-by-minute timeline, then the champion’s own mistakes. These gaps go with losing without proving the cause, but the habit to build is clear.

  • Dying before 15 minutes. 56% of games have three or more deaths before the 15th minute; they win only 43.2%, against 65.4% when Jinx dies once or less (23% of games). Instead: Jinx is weak before her first item and strong after it. Farm with your rockets from a distance, and keep your chompers to stop an engage rather than to start one.
  • Falling behind on farm. At 10 minutes, games with 64 minions or fewer (25%) win 40.1%; those with 81 or more (25%), 60.8%. Instead: switch to rockets to take a whole wave or the minions you are about to miss, and come back to the minigun for single targets.
  • Fleet Footwork instead of Lethal Tempo. Fleet Footwork · Precision + Sorcery is taken in 1,247 Jinx games and wins 46.5%, against 51.6% for Lethal Tempo · Precision + Inspiration. Instead: Lethal Tempo.
  • Staying on the minigun in a teamfight. The minigun needs time to reach full speed and keeps you close: in a fight, it pulls you into range of their divers. Instead: open with rockets from the edge of the fight, and switch to the minigun once the threats have used their spells.
  • Missing the reset. A takedown makes Jinx much faster: that is when she cleans up a fight. Instead: after a kill or an assist, keep hitting the closest target — and don’t step into the next fight before your team does.
