Yone guide: build, runes, matchups and mistakes to avoid

Yone is a melee fighter played in mid and top lane: the third cast of his thrust knocks up, his soul dashes forward then snaps him back to where he started, and his ultimate cuts through a line of enemies and pulls them to him. Like Yasuo, his critical strike chance counts double. In our sample, Yone shows up in ≈ 18.6% of 378,251 ranked solo games and wins 51.2% of 36,572 games in mid lane.

The figures in this guide come from 378,251 ranked solo games played on EUW, patches 16.18 to 16.21, read through Riot’s official API up to 24 October 2026: the same sample as Gankademy’s champion pages. “≈” marks a figure the app also gives as indicative.

Yone is also played in top lane: 31,759 games, 50.2% won. The most-played build there is Blade of The Ruined King → Immortal Shieldbow → Infinity Edge (33% of games, ≈ 58.9%).

The build that wins most

A build, here, is the order of the first three finished items. Out of the 5,845 Yone games in mid lane where those three items are known, the three most-played paths:

BuildItemsPlayedWin rate
1Immortal Shieldbow → Infinity Edge → Death’s Dance31%≈ 60.0%
2Blade of The Ruined King → Immortal Shieldbow → Infinity Edge23%≈ 60.4%
3Immortal Shieldbow → Infinity Edge → Blade of The Ruined King5%≈ 55.4%

In mid, Immortal Shieldbow first and Blade of The Ruined King first win almost the same: choose by your lane. In top lane, Blade of The Ruined King first is by far the most common start.

With build 1, the game most often starts with Doran’s Bow + 2 × Health Potion, the boots are Berserker’s Greaves (99% of games) and the skills are maxed in the order Q > E > W (96%). Most frequent next items: Guardian Angel, Bloodthirster, Mortal Reminder.

Matchups: the easiest and the hardest

Yone’s win rate against each opponent in the same role, compared with the champion’s usual 51.2%: the gap in points. Only matchups of at least 200 games are kept.

Vex86543.9%−7.3
Lux842≈ 47.5%−3.7
Akali1,364≈ 48.7%−2.5

Yone’s worst mid matchups are the champions who punish his entries: Vex, whose passive fears anyone who dashes, and Malphite, who knocks him up the moment he dives. Against them, don’t engage while their control is ready: farm with your thrust and wait for them to use it. Against Azir and Orianna, on the other hand, your soul and your ultimate reach them behind their soldiers and their ball.

In top lane, the hardest: Pantheon (≈ −5.6), Singed (≈ −5.2), Sett (−5.2); the easiest: Gwen (+8.2), Yorick (+7.8), Sion (+7.3).

The most frequent mistakes

Two habits measured on the 9,112 games with a minute-by-minute timeline, then the champion’s own mistakes. These gaps go with losing without proving the cause, but the habit to build is clear.

  • Dying before 15 minutes. 58% of games have three or more deaths before the 15th minute; they win only 42.3%, against 67.9% when Yone dies once or less (23% of games). Instead: play your first levels around the third cast of your thrust — it is your engage and your way out. Without it, or without your soul, don’t start a trade.
  • Falling behind on farm. At 10 minutes, games with 64 minions or fewer (26%) win 40.9%; those with 81 or more (26%), 62.4%. Instead: last-hit with your thrust when nothing threatens you, and don’t chase a kill into the fog when a wave is about to crash on your tower.
  • Teleport in mid. Flash + Teleport is taken in 13% of Yone’s mid games and wins 49.9%, against 52.2% with Flash + Exhaust. Instead: in mid, take a spell that wins the fight itself, unless your team really needs you on the map.
  • Sending the soul in without a way back. Your soul always brings you back where you started: if your body stayed among the enemies, you come back among them. Instead: cast it from a safe spot, or end it early when the fight turns.
  • Wasting the third thrust on minions. The third cast of your thrust is your engage: spending it to farm means starting the next trade without it. Instead: keep it ready when the enemy can reach you, and use it to engage or to cut off an escape.
