Tristana guide: build, runes, matchups and mistakes to avoid
Tristana gains range as she levels up, sticks a charge that explodes after a few hits, and jumps onto her targets; her jump comes back when she takes part in a kill. Her ultimate pushes away an enemy who comes too close — or sends one under your tower. In our sample, Tristana shows up in ≈ 12.2% of 378,251 ranked solo games and wins 51.4% of 42,693 games in bot lane.

The build that wins most
A build, here, is the order of the first three finished items. Out of the 8,495 Tristana games in bot lane where those three items are known, the three most-played paths:
| Build | Items | Played | Win rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Yun Tal Wildarrows → Infinity Edge → Navori Flickerblade | 37% | ≈ 58.2% |
| 2 | Yun Tal Wildarrows → Navori Flickerblade → Infinity Edge | 16% | ≈ 53.0% |
| 3 | Yun Tal Wildarrows → Infinity Edge → Lord Dominik’s Regards | 12% | ≈ 60.3% |
Yun Tal Wildarrows first is almost systematic; then Infinity Edge before Navori Flickerblade wins clearly more often than the other way round (≈ 58.2% against ≈ 53.0%).
With build 1, the game most often starts with Doran’s Bow + 2 × Health Potion + Stealth Ward, the boots are Berserker’s Greaves (89% of games) and the skills are maxed in the order E > Q > W (98%). Most frequent next items: Lord Dominik’s Regards, Bloodthirster, Guardian Angel.

Matchups: the easiest and the hardest
Tristana’s win rate against each opponent in the same role, compared with the champion’s usual 51.4%: the gap in points. Only matchups of at least 200 games are kept.
Easiest against
| Opponent | Games | Win rate | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kalista | 580 | ≈ 56.2% | +4.8 |
| Ezreal | 1,885 | 55.8% | +4.4 |
| Ashe | 1,546 | 55.4% | +4.1 |
| Yunara | 2,116 | 54.9% | +3.5 |
Hardest against
| Opponent | Games | Win rate | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Veigar | 392 | 44.6% | −6.7 |
| Draven | 1,017 | ≈ 48.7% | −2.7 |
Tristana has few truly hard matchups. Veigar in bot lane is the worst: his cage punishes your jump, and a jump at the wrong time costs your life. Against Draven, don’t trade while his axes are spinning: farm, wait for your level and your charge. Against Ezreal, Ashe or Kalista, your jump and your charge win the trades: push and take the plates.
The most frequent mistakes
Two habits measured on the 10,817 games with a minute-by-minute timeline, then the champion’s own mistakes. These gaps go with losing without proving the cause, but the habit to build is clear.
- Dying before 15 minutes. 51% of games have three or more deaths before the 15th minute; they win only 43.7%, against 65.1% when Tristana dies once or less (27% of games). Instead: your jump is your only escape. Keep it while their engage is ready, and only use it to go in once the kill is sure — a takedown gives it back at once.
- Falling behind on farm. At 10 minutes, games with 62 minions or fewer (26%) win 41.5%; those with 79 or more (25%), 60.9%. Instead: put your charge on the wave or on the tower when you have nothing better to hit — Tristana pushes fast, and a pushed wave lets you farm safely.
- Navori Flickerblade before Infinity Edge. Build 2 (Yun Tal Wildarrows → Navori Flickerblade → Infinity Edge) wins ≈ 53.0% on 16% of games; build 1, with Infinity Edge second, wins ≈ 58.2%. Instead: Infinity Edge before Navori Flickerblade.
- Jumping in with no reset in sight. Your jump is your only escape: using it to enter a fight you are not sure to win leaves you with no way out. Instead: jump to finish a target or once their engage is spent — a kill or a fully charged bomb gives it back at once.
- Forgetting the charge on towers. Your charge deals heavy damage to towers: you take them fast. Instead: when the wave is under their tower and their jungler has shown elsewhere, stick it on the tower and take the plates.
