Yasuo guide: build, runes, matchups and mistakes to avoid
Yasuo is a swordsman with no mana: he dashes through minions, his wind wall stops every projectile, and his ultimate strikes enemies knocked into the air by him or by his allies. His critical strike chance counts double, and his shield recharges as he moves. In our sample, Yasuo shows up in ≈ 16.9% of 378,251 ranked solo games and wins 50.7% of 39,550 games in mid lane.

- Win rate
- 50.7%
- Pick rate
- ≈ 16.9% of games
- Ban rate

The figures in this guide come from 378,251 ranked solo games played on EUW, patches 16.18 to 16.21, read through Riot’s official API up to 24 October 2026: the same sample as Gankademy’s champion pages. “≈” marks a figure the app also gives as indicative.
Yasuo is also played in top lane: 13,238 games, 49.6% won. The most-played build there is Blade of The Ruined King → Immortal Shieldbow → Infinity Edge (20% of games, ≈ 52.9%).
The build that wins most
A build, here, is the order of the first three finished items. Out of the 6,455 Yasuo games in mid lane where those three items are known, the three most-played paths:
| Build | Items | Played | Win rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Immortal Shieldbow → Infinity Edge → Death’s Dance | 22% | ≈ 57.2% |
| 2 | Blade of The Ruined King → Immortal Shieldbow → Infinity Edge | 12% | ≈ 56.7% |
| 3 | Kraken Slayer → Immortal Shieldbow → Infinity Edge | 5% | ≈ 53.1% |
In mid, Yasuo follows the same paths as Yone: Immortal Shieldbow then Infinity Edge, or Blade of The Ruined King first. Kraken Slayer first, rarer, wins less often. In top lane, starting with Immortal Shieldbow wins more often than Blade of The Ruined King, on fewer games.
With build 1, the game most often starts with Doran’s Bow + 2 × Health Potion, the boots are Berserker’s Greaves (99% of games) and the skills are maxed in the order Q > E > W (99%). Most frequent next items: Guardian Angel, Bloodthirster, Blade of The Ruined King.
Runes and summoner spells
The most-played rune pages of Yasuo in mid lane, by keystone and trees:
| Page | Games | Win rate |
|---|---|---|
| Lethal Tempo · Precision + Resolve | 31,903 | 50.9% |
| Fleet Footwork · Precision + Resolve | 4,909 | 50.3% |
| Grasp of the Undying · Resolve + Precision | 1,293 | 50.0% |
| Lethal Tempo · Precision + Domination | 301 | 50.2% |
Lethal Tempo with Resolve is Yasuo’s page in four games out of five; Fleet Footwork and Grasp of the Undying win about the same, on far fewer games.
The full page most played with build 1: Lethal Tempo, Absorb Life, Legend: Alacrity, Last Stand, Overgrowth, Second Wind. Summoner spells: Flash + Ignite in 66% of games.
Matchups: the easiest and the hardest
Yasuo’s win rate against each opponent in the same role, compared with the champion’s usual 50.7%: the gap in points. Only matchups of at least 200 games are kept.
Easiest against
| Opponent | Games | Win rate | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ryze | 304 | 60.5% | +9.8 |
| Cassiopeia | 201 | ≈ 58.7% | +8.0 |
| Mel | 611 | 58.1% | +7.4 |
| Hwei | 627 | 57.1% | +6.4 |
Hardest against
| Opponent | Games | Win rate | Gap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Renekton | 241 | 41.9% | −8.8 |
| Vel’Koz | 261 | 42.5% | −8.2 |
| Vladimir | 927 | 44.9% | −5.8 |
| Aurelion Sol | 477 | 45.1% | −5.6 |
The wind wall does all the work against mages who throw projectiles — Ryze, Mel, Hwei: they are Yasuo’s best matchups. It counts for much less against Vladimir or Aurelion Sol, most of whose damage doesn’t travel as a projectile it can stop, and not at all against Renekton, who wins the melee. Against them, farm at a distance and play for your jungler.
In top lane, the hardest: Gangplank (≈ −6.5), Darius (≈ −5.9), Sett (≈ −5.9); the easiest: Yorick (≈ +8.9).
The most frequent mistakes
Two habits measured on the 9,929 games with a minute-by-minute timeline, then the champion’s own mistakes. These gaps go with losing without proving the cause, but the habit to build is clear.
- Dying before 15 minutes. 59% of games have three or more deaths before the 15th minute; they win only 43.0%, against 67.1% when Yasuo dies once or less (21% of games). Instead: your shield and your wall make you safer than you look — only if they are up. Count them before every trade, and back off when both are down.
- Falling behind on farm. At 10 minutes, games with 68 minions or fewer (25%) win 43.7%; those with 84 or more (27%), 59.1%. Instead: last-hit with your Q from a distance, dash on minions on your tower’s side, and let the wave come to you rather than following it under their tower.
- Teleport in mid. Flash + Teleport is taken in 3% of Yasuo’s mid games and wins 48.2%, against 51.6% with Flash + Exhaust. Instead: in mid, take a spell that wins the fight.
- Dashing forward through their minions. Every dash through the enemy minions brings you closer to their champion and to their tower. Instead: in lane, dash on the minions on your tower’s side to trade and come back, and only go into their wave when their key spells are down.
- Throwing the wind wall too early. Your wind wall is your best defence, but it only lasts a few seconds and comes back slowly. Instead: keep it for the spell that would kill you — their mage’s control, their marksman’s ultimate — not for a basic attack.
